About this Site

A few years ago, poor TV reception led to the purchase of satellite TV. The showing of Monkey Business and Monkey Life on the wildlife channels started an amazing journey.
A short visit to Monkey World in 2008 and the addiction started.  A borrowed Canon 350d and a 70-300 lens got the ball rolling. Upgrading camera and lens and the education into photography continues.

More importantly is the knowledge learned about the fantastic work that the staff at Monkey World carry out. Monkey World is not a zoo. It is a dedicated primate rescue and rehabilitation centre started by the dream of Jim Cronin. Primates have been rescued from different scenarios from all over the world. A lot of the chimpanzees were used as beach photographers props in Spain, Turkey, Mexico and other locations. Monkey World have worked hard with international governments to outlaw this activity.
Others have been rescued or retired from research laboratories or as being kept as pets.

All the rescued primates have had a traumatic life and it is the aim of Monkey World to give them back as natural a life as possible. As most have not grown up in the wild, they would not be equipped to survive if released back to their native environment. It is the belief of so many that this is the next best thing.

The photographs are intended to show what a difference a dedicated few can make in helping animals live a normal life.

More recent experiences with other animals has led to an expansion on this theme. The most recent was the encounter with Mainline Border Collies. It is hoped you enjoy the photos on this site and help to give others a Second Chance.
